If you’re anything like me, you don’t often have the opportunity to wear mesh. I am not exactly athletic and my basketball career ended at the age of 10 in tears on the phone with my parents while I was stuck at UConn basketball camp. Stella McCartney Spring 2012 sent some posh mesh options down the runway, combining the perforated texture with grecian appliques. The dresses from the collection have been worn by basically every single celebrity now and the look is really easy to recreate. Take a deep breath and then venture into your nearest sporting goods store for some mesh shorts. Add some appliques and it’s game time.

I love these shorts!! I’m new to fashion diy but this looks easy enough for a beginner like me! Great post!
Really nice idea!
xx
love it !!!
Brilliant! Thanks for giving me new use for my 5+ year old mesh shorts I have been hanging on to…
Love, Love, Love Stella McCartney!
Love the shorts, but how would you wash them? Is the glue going to hold the appliques that tight?
if you use the proper fabric glue it’ll be fine!

Fashionistas out there have to take a look at this site! Runway DIY-Great looks you do yourself simple as pie, runway inspired!
Love the embroidery appliques. This would also look great in another contrasting color such as navy, I have to go to the haberdashery and see what they have!

Amazing!!!!!
where did the appliqués come from?
where are the appliqués from?
I don’t know where these particular appliques are from, but I know you can get ones similar from fabric and sewing stores like Fabricland and Joannes as well as craft stores like Michaels. You can get iron on ones with built in adhesive as well as sew on ones or glue them on with fabric glue like she is recommending here.
I like it! I’ve just made a Stella McCartney’s embroidery inspired DIY sweater. If you want, you can get the photos at http://www.thediysigner.blogspot.com
