DIY Arm Warmers

I am over winter. I am over my sweaters and I am over my long sleeves. I am over my thick socks and I am certainly over Uggs. Looking into my closet at my sleeveless dresses and my drawers full of tees is legitimately depressing these days.

I have been seeing arm warmers making their rounds lately. Some are long gloves with fingers cut off homeless-man-style, and some are basically stand-alone sleeves. I love the layering options that the latter provides – they can be worn all day, not just outdoors, and let you wear short sleeves even in the depressing depths of February (S.A.D. much?). This DIY is simple, cheap, and requires very few supplies.

Take a pair of knee high knit socks and cut the foot section off of them.

I made mine so that the end that was once the top of the sock, the end you did not just cut, was the end nearest my fingers. Cut an upwards slit about 1.5 to 2 inches up from this edge. Make the slit large enough that your thumb can fit through it.

Remove the sleeve and turn it inside-out. Stitch the raw edges of the hole down. You can just tack this lightly, try not to go through to the other side of the sleeve. To do this just take a full needle-full of the edge near the hole and just a few strings from the fabric outside of that area- it will hold just fine.

Trim your extra threads, turn the sleeves back around and you are done!
